Ayman and Nellie contacted us in regards to their Colorado elopement with some very promising ideas. After talking logistics and planning with us we finally landed on doing their ceremony at the beautiful Big Meadows Reservoir in the heart of Wolf Creek Pass about 40 minutes drive East from Pagosa Springs (or 2 hours from Durango). To elope in Colorado is no easy task due to a variety of reasons; one being that there are so many beautiful spots to choose from. It can really be overwhelming to pin the perfect location down, and we're here to help!

Another reason eloping in Colorado can be a challenge is because of the weather. When choosing to plan a ceremony in the high alpine it is always worth considering the time of the year and the time of the day (summertime monsoonal thunderstorms love to roll through after approximately 1ish PM on any given June or July day). Ayman and Nellie's San Juan mountain elopement was no exception!

After getting ready in a cabin at the base of Wolf Creek Pass, the lovely couple shared a pre-game picnic with a couple of drinks before making their way up and over the Wolf Creek summit to the ceremony site at the lake. Upon driving over the pass we were staring directly into some very large thunderheads! Luckily the storm did not choose to ravage us until right after the ceremony.

As Colorado elopement photographers we are used to inclement weather; however, this storm came in with a vengeance as hail began to fall heavily. Needless to say, we quickly rushed to the shelter of our vehicles and drove down to Pagosa Springs, to enjoy the rest of the day and do some elopement photography downtown (where the weather was much more pleasant).
