A Baja California Sur Elopement in Todos Santos
Are you brainstorming your perfect adventure elopement or intimate wedding location? A destination elopement that combines the beauty of the ocean, desert landscapes, and vibrant culture? Todos Santos in Baja California Sur might be worth consideration. Its warm golden desert tones, the Pacific Ocean's deep blues, and the vibrant greens of the palm groves couldn't make us happier as adventure elopement photographers; let's just say we were very excited to get to go back to Todos to photograph Emily and Eric's celebration of love.
Todos Santos is tucked between the arid Sierra de la Laguna mountains (honestly they give us eloping in Utah or Arizona feelings) and the Pacific Ocean, offering a gorgeous and unique setting for couples looking to elope in a place that blends natural beauty (think jungle Palm groves and beautiful beaches) with desert vibes. The town is far enough from Cabo that you get the "tranquilo" atmosphere and none of the tourist trap experiences; and whether you're exploring the cute downtown cobblestone streets, bars, shops, and restaurants, or enjoying the sun and the waves on its vast, serene beaches, Todos Santos will charm your socks right off.
Being about an hour and a half drive Northwest of Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos is a bit off the grid. We recommend renting a car (you could take a $100ish taxi, but the area is fairly spread out once you get there, so you'll probably want a car anyway). The town itself is known for its laid-back atmosphere, colorful art scene, and beautiful mix of desert and jungle plant species (it's definitely worth the money to eat dinner at Jazamango, or brunch at Cafe Jazamango. The landscaping is absolutely gorgeous at most lodging, and great for photography. From downtown it's typically a short drive to your accommodation if you are staying near the beach; there is a LOT of beach access and the beach is endless. The town is not on the beach, but is less than a 5-minute drive. If you're envisioning a Mexico adventure elopement with an off-the-beaten-path vibe that is still relatively easy to get to, Todos Santos is going to be hard to beat.
Eric and Emily almost eloped in the snowy mountains of Oregon, briefly considered eloping in Colorado, but finally decided on Mexico last minute. They were more than stoked about their tropical plans we helped them make. They had always dreamed of an intimate wedding surrounded by the beauty of nature, and Baja California Sur certainly delivered! Originally we had planned on a sunset ceremony on the beach, but the grounds of their rental were so beautiful that we decided to have the wedding there; check out Casa del Arte. We made a batch of margaritas post-ceremony and enjoyed a rooftop reception overlooking the Pacific Ocean as we watched the sun drop below the horizon, and then headed to the pool.
