Colorado Elopement on Molas Pass - paul & mikayla

Planning an adventure elopement in Colorado shouldn't be stressful, but it certainly takes some consideration. Two major questions need to be answered: Where should you go, and what time of year? Once you've figured these two things out everything else will feel like a walk in the park.

Your Colorado elopement photographers can help you make the right choices when it comes to these major decisions. This particular couple contacted us and we asked them a series of questions to help narrow down the ideal places to recommend (they had already decided that their location would be somewhere in CO). What time of year would you like to elope in Colorado? How far off the beaten path do you want to be? Are you willing to hike to get there? Do you have, or will you need a 4x4 vehicle? What kind of scenery would you like in the background? Do you plan on working with a wedding planner? (Our personal favorite is Emily with Mountainesque Weddings). Here are the answers we received from Paul and Makayla: We want to elope in the fall. We don't want to hike. We don't want to drive really far. We don't have a 4x4 vehicle and don't want to depend on one to get to our spot. We are really hoping to have yellow aspens and mountains in the background. We would like to work with your favorite wedding coordinator.

After considering their answers we were able to narrow down some options; we sent them photos of our favorite locations from previous Colorado elopement packages that checked those boxes and Molas Pass ended up being the perfect location for these two. Molas Pass is a high point on the infamous Highway 550, the Million Dollar Highway. From Durango, Colorado, Molas Pass is approximately 35 miles North on 550; drivers will pass Purgatory ski resort (a great place for larger weddings) and drive over Coalbank Pass before reaching Molas. You'll know you've found the right place when you crest the top of a large incline and are surrounded by magnificent views of the San Juan Mountains. This also happens to be where the final section of the Colorado Trail crosses the highway on its way to Durango (talk about a place with lots of adventure elopement potential!)

Molas Pass has an incredible amount of potential due to its elevation and 360-degree views, not to mention the multiple lakes, aspen glades, rock outcroppings, and meadows (full of wildflowers in the summer months). There are prolific options here for Colorado adventure elopements. We would love to help you plan your San Juan Mountains elopement here!
